July 3 Torchlight Parade

Join our spectacular torchlight parade on July 3rd as period-costumed volunteers march through historic Benicia carrying authentic torches. This annual tradition celebrates our nation's independence and showcases the community spirit that makes our historic park special. The parade begins at dusk and is followed by patriotic activities at the Capitol.

Admission Day Celebration

Commemorate California's statehood with our annual Admission Day celebration. This special event honors the day California became the 31st state and celebrates Benicia's role as the state's third capital. Enjoy historical presentations, period demonstrations, and educational activities that highlight California's rich political heritage.

St. Nicholas at the Fischer-Hanlon House

Experience a Victorian Christmas at the historic Fischer-Hanlon House. St. Nicholas visits in traditional 19th-century style, while volunteers serve warm cider and fresh cookies from the wood-burning stove. Local Girl Scout troops often demonstrate Victorian ornament making, creating a magical holiday atmosphere that transports visitors back in time.

🎪 Events are sponsored by the Benicia State Parks Association. Vintage Lawn games are held on the Capitol lawn, hand churned ice cream is made. Groups such as the American Civil War Association also participate at the historic site. All volunteers are invited to the volunteer appreciation event. Warm cider and cookies from the wood burning stove are served in the Fischer Hanlon house kitchen during the winter Open House. Victorian Ornament making by local girl scout troops is done at the Capitol building.

🚶‍♂️ Tours of Historic Site

🕐 During operating hours of the Benicia State Historic Park, open public tours and private tours are available. Contact 707-745-3670 to confirm tour availability. Scheduled group and school tours of the historic park need to be made through the Benicia State Parks Association. An additional charge will apply for the scheduled historic interpretive tours.

📅 Visitors are advised to call prior to scheduling a visit or to schedule a school or group tour (30 days in advance). The adult admission ticket fee for the historic park is $3 and $2 for children 6-17 years of age. Included in the ticket fee is admission to the Historic Benicia State Capitol, the Fischer-Hanlon house, the historic house garden and the Carriage house.
