Benicia State Capitol Event – Vigilante Committees in 1850’s California

Dates:Sunday, Aug 20, 2107 (2:00 – 4:00)

January 1848, gold was discovered in California, & “the world rushed in”. San Francisco and the gold fields soon became lawless places. Private citizens  joined together to form “vigilante committees” to bring order to the chaos. Their methods were direct, and some say illegal!

Steve Beck, Chief Historian at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park, will unravel the stories.

To add to the historic feel, the Faulkner’s Californio Trio will perform early California  MUSIC \ SONGS.

Hope you can attend and learn about how the  “Vigilante Movement” affected  Benicia and much of early California . .
